Ear seed therapy, also known as auricular therapy, is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine which observes the ear as a microcosm of the body. Auricular therapy uses points of the ear, along with small round seeds which are modestly taped on areas of the outer ear, which the client may press over the course of 3-4 days as additional stimulation for the points.

Why the ear can be used to diagnosis and treat disease?

Auricular Therapy integrates Western and Chinese theories of health as balance and equilibrium.

The use of the ear is based on the rich and multiple connections which it has with the central nervous system. The shape of the body is projected onto the ear and every point of the body corresponds to a point of the ear.  P. proposed the theory of "reversed embryo."  With this theory, it is very easy to understand why it is so efficient to treat the diseases of the whole body by simply stimulating the specific points on the ear.

Furthermore, based on TCM, the ear is believed to have a close relationship with the twelve channels and collaterals, and is the place where the meridians pass through, end and intersect with each ear. Auricular therapy is generally painless just like all other skillfully performed acupuncture.  Ear seeds are sometimes painless, but on occasion a particular point in the ear may be sensitive, so there may be some discomfort.

Ear Seeds allow for extended stimulation of meridian points.  One to five ear seeds are placed in each ear.  Ear seed treatment lasts three days.  The patient removes the seeds themselves when the treatment period is complete (note: if irritation occurs, remove immediately).

The patient may assist the effectiveness of ear seeds by performing self massage on the seeded areas during the treatment period.  Stimulate the ear seeds 3-5 times a day until one feels a feeling of hot or numbness at the site of the seeds.
